"I volunteer at Cross-Cultural Ministries because I like being with children and have a special place in my heart for those  who are needy and vulnerable.  I hope I can help them in some way.  And the structure and planning at the center makes everything we do so much easier."

Featured Involvement Opportunities

December Activities 2011

These are great times for Sunday School classes, church groups, and individuals to be involved in local outreach and to serve a community of under-resourced families.

  • Friday, December 16, Christmas play & practice for Posadas, 2:15-4:30 PM

  • Saturday, December 17, sorting & preparing gifts for the children, 1:00-3:00 PM

  • Saturday, December 17, Las Posadas, 6:00-8:00 PM

Las Posadas combines reenacting the Christmas story, as we go to several homes that represent different scenes, and Christmas caroling. We return to the center for cookies and hot chocolate. Participate by coming to sing, bring cookies, and helping to set up or dress the children in their costumes. Consider making this part of your Christmas caroling experience.

  • Tuesday, December 20, Christmas party for children and "store" for them to select a gift for their parents, 1:00-5:00 PM

You can help make this be a great time for the children by assisting in one of several ways: set up in the morning, assist in the party or "store," provide cupcakes or cookies for the children to decorate.

Another way to participate is through helping us provide gifts for the children, such as:

  • Candyland board game, checkers, other simple board games
  • Toys similar to Tinker Toys or Lego, but not as expensive
  • Barbie-style dolls
  • Baby dolls
  • Cars and trucks, large and small
  • Water color paint kits
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Jump ropes
  • Pick-up sticks, deck of cards, Uno and other card games
  • Stuffed animals
  • "Ready-to-Read" books at School Box, levels 1-3
  • Early reader books from Barnes & Noble
  • 3-D puzzles, such as ones at Michaels
  • Fleece throw/blanket
  • Nerf guns
  • Craft kits, such as for beads, jewelry, cars or planes – keep it simple.

Most of the gift ideas are $10 or under. Simple, non-electronic, & easy to understand instructions (which probably won't be read) are the best for crafts and games.
